How to support MOScholars

Supporting the MOScholars program is a simple three-step process

The state of Missouri is offering its only 100% tax credit to fund a new K-12 scholarship program for Missouri students. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone with a state tax liability to essentially direct how their tax dollars are used.

This tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar credit (not deduction) on a person’s state tax liability. When you follow the simple steps below to claim your credit, you will be helping a low-income student or a student with special needs access a K-12 education scholarship wth no impact to your bottom line!

1

Reserve your tax credits

Reserve your tax credits in any amount of $500 or more by visiting the State Treasurer’s website where a special online tax credit reservation portal has been set up at: https://treasurer.mo.gov/MOScholars/ReservationApp.

During this step you will select from one of six Education Assistance Organizations (an EAO is a scholarship granting organization).

The full list of EAOs to choose from can be found at the bottom of this page.

2

Submit your tax credit authorization and donation

Submit your tax credit authorization along with your donation within 30 days to the scholarship organization (EAO) you chose during the reservation process. After your donation is processed the EAO, you will receive a tax credit certificate. Donations can be made in the form of:

  • Checks drawn on a US banking institution

  • Money orders

  • Electronic funds transfers

3

Redeem your tax credit

When you file your state taxes for the year, include the tax credit certificate you received to reduce your tax liability by the same amount as the donation you made!

This tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar credit (not deduction) on a person’s state tax liability. You will be helping a low-income student or a student with special needs access a K-12 education scholarship.
